Stretch House
2-Storey Residence
Location: Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines
Status: Design Development stage
The house stands on a triangular lot with a 30-meter wide frontage facing west. The rear side features an overlooking view across another village.
The formal composition is basically about a semi-transparent living-dining-kitchen volume open to the backyard landscaping and a solid private block hovering above with views oriented towards the sunrise and an overlooking scenery towards east.
Primary living spaces at the ground floor are designed with opposing walls open to allow for effective cross ventilation and airflow through. This opening also extends the living-dining-kitchen social space to the backyard garden. The Master Bedroom is at the rear corner of the lot, positioned perpendicular to the main building, away from the potential noise and activity of the living areas at front. Bedrooms are located at the private level above. At the north end of the second level is a large family room with an extended open terrace overlooking the backyard.
Cantilevered roof eaves shade the interior from the afternoon sun while a double-skin facade incorporating a series of timber louvers provide the shade and transparency needed for the private level above. These canopy extensions also result in a visually-stretched facade filling the wide frontage and making the house appear more prominent.
